The port of East London is the countries only river port and is located 950 km east of Cape Town and 460 km south of Durban on the south eastern seaboard of South Africa. The port consists of 13 berths and a maximum draft of 10.5 meters. The port is a multipurpose port and Greystones Cargo Systems supply services to the majority of the clients and vessels calling in the port.

The Motor Industry

Greystones Cargo Systems handles motor vehicles and motor vehicle products for the major car manufacturer in East London.

Bulk Cargo Handling

Exports
Our export rates via the grain elevator schutes averages at 1100 tons per hour. All our staff operating on these vessels is trained and has the knowledge of loading and trimming these vessels to full capacity. Greystones Cargo Coordinators, onboard, can handle any situation, from checking on vessels trim, draft and planning of load sequence to ensuring that the vessel is loaded to maximum capacity without effecting vessels draft, stability, and trimming restrictions.
Imports
Greystones Cargo Systems contributed to the efficiency and maximum utilisation of the Grain Elevator by setting up a hopper and conveyor belt facility to receive bulk cargo direct into the grain silos.
Our average vessel discharge rate, utilizing two vessel cranes and Greystones 8 cbm grabs is 350 /380 tons per hour, achieving the silo intake capacity depending on the vessels gear and silo space. 24 hour productivity ensures minimum delays, apart from weather - Ensuring and minimizing the Vessels port stay. We have all the necessary equipment required for the bottom payloading etc.
Bulk Road Truck Discharge Intake into Elevator
We contributed to the efficiency of bulk cargo intake into the Elevator by setting up a road intake facility for the receiving of all grain cargos, via our conveyor belt system, ex road trucks direct into the grain silos.
These Bulk Road Trucks operate between Inland Grain Silos and the Port of East London. We comfortably handle 40 Road Trucks per day, on a 24 hour basis. This has assisted Grain Traders in a speedy delivery of the bulk cargo into the grain silos. Breakbulk Operations Breakbulk and general cargo operations are a smaller part of sector for the port of East London. We are geared to handle any general cargo operation.
We have handled bagged rice directly into the quay sheds and have also discharged bags of rice and bleed the bags via our conveyor belt system into the grain silos as bulk cargo.
There exists a great potential for this sector in the port and we are marketing these services with clients.
