Greystones Cargo Systems (Pty) Ltd. was formed in 1993 and is a Joint Venture (JV) company between Greystones Enterprises (Pty) Ltd. and Stevedoring Services of America (SSA Marine). Greystones Enterprises (Pty) Ltd. has been active in the bulk, break-bulk business in SA for over 30 years. Our JV partner SSA Marine, is the largest stevedoring/container terminal operator in the USA, operating at over 150 locations throughout the world, which brings unique equipment/terminal operating expertise to the joint venture.

GCS started its operations primarily in handling bulk cargoes of grain and minerals through the stevedoring expertise that it had available. The company has since grown into various areas of the stevedoring marine terminal industry and today handles all types of cargoes from containers through to cars, bulk and break-bulk.

Future growth is envisaged in Private Partnerships in all South African Ports and the establishment of Bulk and Break bulk terminals to provide clients with specialized cargo handling facilities.

With the international relationships and associations that are held by SSA Marine, GCS is able to offer international door-door logistical services to most parts of the world. Here, the cargo is handled by one company therefore creating a just in time capability and holding the company responsible for the cargo right up to delivery.
